Thanks for this, it’s a great way of summing up my opinion on the matter:

“If we want to ever grow our reps beyond link merchants and hype hounds, I think it’s important.”

It’s great to see SEOs and University Professors taking a lead in this kind of way and I only hope we see more and more people pushing for this depth of knowledge. Exactly as you stated, by our actions we make the SEO industry what it is – and as it’s an industry in it’s infancy, I think it’s all the more important.

Bill was really the inspiration for me wanting to dig deeper and now ask the rest of the community to expand their knowledge as well. If we want to ever grow our reps beyond link merchants and hype hounds, I think it’s important.
